It is written, "Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them" (Proverbs 13:24).
Children do fall and make mistakes. Too many a mistake that we cannot count it with our fingers. Yet we still manages to love them. Though there are times we must use the rod to remind them that what they have done was wrong.
I admit, for so many times, I used the rod to discipline my kids. Wrongdoings will not go unpunished. But out of love for the kids, and out of love coming from the Lord, grace and mercy overshadows any mistake they have committed. Nevertheless, enough raising of the rod was necessary I believe for some reasons:
1. The rod teaches our kids to identify a mistake.
2. The rod is a test to all parents on how patiently they will handle a child.
3. The rod is an opportunity to serve others.
